UIW Receives Major Grant for Cardiovascular Research

UIW has been awarded a nearly half million-dollar grant to the Feik School of Pharmacy for research on cardiovascular disease. The $469,428 grant will be disbursed over the course of four years and is funded through the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health via the Support for Research Excellence Program.

UIW and TLU Sign MOUs to Establish Health Professions Pathway for TLU Graduates

UIW and Texas Lutheran University (TLU) announced they have entered into a series of memorandums of understanding (MOU) as part of UIW’s Health Professions Pathway. The MOUs pave the way for TLU students to further their education in four different areas of health professions by reserving interview slots for qualified students to have an opportunity to attend the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine, the Feik School of Pharmacy, the Rosenberg School of Optometry, and the UIW School of Physical Therapy.

The UIW Feik School of Pharmacy (FSOP) held its annual White Coat Ceremony on Friday, Aug. 12 in the McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room. 700 attendees, including students, families, UIW administrators, and FSOP alumni, faculty, staff and special guests celebrated the Class of 2026.

Strength in Unity, Hope in Understanding: Feik Students and Faculty Live the Mission in Puerto Rico

Ten learners and three faculty members from the University of the Incarnate Word Feik School of Pharmacy lived out this command, using the gifts of medicine and compassion on a mission trip held from May 14 – 21. The group travelled to Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, where they served the Celia Mondriguez Elderly Center and residents of the local community. The trip was a collaborative effort with the National Hispanic Pharmacy Association and the UIW Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability.

UIW Feik School of Pharmacy Tops in Texas

UIW is proud to announce that the Feik School of Pharmacy (FSOP) graduating Class of 2021 led the State of Texas by finishing No. 1 in the state on the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX). The NAPLEX is a standardized test that is considered one of the last steps before a student becomes a licensed pharmacist. This is the second year in a row that FSOP students led the state.

Dr. Ronda Gottlieb, UIW director of Clinical Health, has been part of UIW’s team of first responders since the onset of the pandemic. As she recounts, “On Jan. 9, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced a mysterious coronavirus-related pneumonia in Wuhan, China. At that point, cases were very low in China, but on January 20, 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) began screening for Coronavirus at three U.S. international airports. When the first confirmed U.S. case of COVID-19 was identified in Washington state, the UIW Incident Command team began officially meeting."
