Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery

APhA’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program (14th Edition) is based on national educational standards for immunization training from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  This practice-based curriculum represents a fusion of science and clinical pharmacy. The program, which emphasizes a health care team approach, seeks to foster the implementation of interventions that will promote disease prevention and public health.

The purpose of this certificate training program is to prepare pharmacy students with comprehensive knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to provide immunization services to patients across the life span

The Pharmacist and Patient-Centered Diabetes Care

An educational experience designed to equip pharmacy students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to provide effective, evidence-based diabetes care. The program provides comprehensive instruction in current diabetes concepts and standards of care and incorporates case studies and hands-on skills training focused on the situations most likely to be encountered—as well as the services most needed—in community and ambulatory care practice settings. Students will gain experience evaluating and adjusting drug therapy regimens for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, counseling patients about lifestyle interventions, analyzing and interpreting self-monitoring of blood glucose results, and assessing the overall health status of patients to identify needed monitoring and interventions.

Point-of-Care Testing Certificate Program

Point-of-care testing empowers pharmacy students to use effective, fast technology to aid their decision-making at the “point-of-care” to improve patient health. Community pharmacy-based point-of-care testing utilizes CLIA-waived (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived) tests that offer near immediate results in non-laboratory settings.  Pharmacies are increasingly offering this public health service to promote prevention, early detection, and disease management. The NACDS Community Pharmacy-based Point-of-Care Testing Certificate Program provides an opportunity to gain the skills and information necessary to develop a testing program for influenza, Group A Streptococcus, HIV, and Hepatitis C.
