Alyssa Hinojosa is a fourth-year Pharmacy student at the Feik School of Pharmacy and is concurrently working on a Master of Arts in Healthcare Administration. She is also a single mother of three boys and her journey to this point has been anything but a straight path.

UIW is proud to announce that Dr. Heather Barton-Weston, assistant professor and public health coordinator in the Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions; Dr. Nile Barnes, assistant professor of Pharmacy; and Dr. Maria Felix-Ortiz, professor and chair of Psychology, obtained $32,000 of stipends from Interfaith Youth Core’s (IFYC) Faith in the Vaccine grant for UIW students to serve as “vaxambassadors” who promote vaccination against COVID-19.
At least three dozen UIW students from the Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing, Feik School of Pharmacy and School of Osteopathic Medicine along with over 100 volunteers will participate in a COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic at Southside High School on April 10, 2021. About 1,000 area residents have been pre-registered to receive the vaccine.
