David F. Maize, RPh, PhD
Dr. David F. Maize joined the faculty as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2005. In 2010, he was promoted to Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences. From July to October 2011, he served as Acting Dean of the Feik School of Pharmacy, and became Dean in January 2017 upon the retirement of Founding Dean Arcelia Johnson Fannin.
Dr. Maize graduated with a bachelor’s degree with honors in pharmacy from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA in 1991. He then attended West Virginia University and received his doctorate in Pharmacology/Toxicology in 1996. His specialty is pulmonary pharmacology.
Dr. Maize graduated from the Academic Leadership Fellows Program conducted by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). He has presented a poster at every AACP meeting since coming to the Feik School of Pharmacy. He has also been an invited speaker in Chicago, Boston and Kingsville, TX. He has offered numerous continuing education programs mainly in HIV prevention. He was invited to return to his previous school (Wilkes) to offer a continuing education program for the 10th anniversary of their founding.
In 1996, Dr. Maize was hired as one of the founding faculty members of the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He has had a wide variety of teaching responsibilities at the school including pharmacology, anatomy and physiology and pharmacy business. In 2002, he was promoted to Associate Professor and assumed the role of Director of Assessment and Outreach (Continuing Education and Alumni). Dr. Maize received 6 Outstanding Teacher/Faculty Awards while at Wilkes. He also received many additional awards at Wilkes and was a founding member of the Wilkes University Assessment Committee.
Dr. Maize holds memberships in many professional organizations including: Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society, Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Society, NCPA, Texas Pharmacy Association and Bexar County Pharmacists Association. He is a Brother of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity and is the advisor for the school’s chapter (Epsilon Beta). Dr. Maize was named one of the top ten advisors in the nation two years (2009, 2010) in a row and in 2011 was named the top advisor in the country. He holds training certificates in asthma awareness, smoking cessation and HIV education.
During his free time, he is an avid supporter of the performing arts. Dr. Maize retired from the Board of Directors of the San Antonio Opera and Vice President of Education.
