Lila P. LaGrange, PhD

Professor, Pharmaceutical Sciences

Dr. Lila LaGrange earned a B.S. in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University at College Station and a Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Upon completion of her second postdoctoral fellowship at the UTHSCSA, she joined the faculty at the Feik School of Pharmacy when it opened in 2006.  Dr. LaGrange teaches a two-semester physiology course in the first year of the program.

Dr. LaGrange has become increasing involved in the area of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, specifically focusing on education-type projects that improve the learning environment for students. She also involves students in scholarship by mentoring them through academic writing projects. Dr. LaGrange’s biomedical research interest is on factors that influence smooth muscle contractility.

Dr. LaGrange’s teaching philosophy centers around the belief that her role as a teacher is to create a student-centered environment that actively involves students in the learning process. She believes in engaging students by building a strong teacher-student relationship and creating an environment where students think critically, work in groups and find individual fulfillment in their progress and achievements.

Dr. LaGrange is an active member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy where she serves as chair-elect of the Biological Sciences Section. She is a member of the Career Advisory Council at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at UT Health San Antonio. Dr. LaGrange serves as a science fair judge at the local and international levels.
