Elizabeth M. Urteaga, PharmD, BC-ADM

Professor, Pharmacy Practice

Dr. Urteaga is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University of the Incarnate Word Feik School of Pharmacy. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University in 2002.  She then attended the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy and received her Doctor of Pharmacy in 2006. She continued her training and completed a Specialty residency in Primary Care at the Providence, Rhode Island Veterans Affairs Medical Center followed by a PGY2 residency in Primary Care at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Urteaga joined the faculty of the University of the Incarnate Word in 2008.

Dr. Urteaga has received several UIW intramural grants funding objective structured clinical exam (OSCE) research and authored one book chapter. She teaches patient assessment, immunizations, and pharmacotherapeutics of asthma and smoking cessation. In addition, Dr. Urteaga trains students and residents at her clinical pharmacy practice site at a VA outpatient clinic where she specializes in primary care.

Dr. Urteaga is a member of the National Lipid Association, the Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE) and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). Her main areas of interest include dyslipidemia and the objective structured clinical exam (OSCE).
