IPE and Community Engagement Coordinator and Assistant Professor, Pharmacy Practice

Dr. Nile Barnes has a circuitous route to UIW. Before becoming a pharmacist, he was an EMT and then a paramedic for the City of Austin and later a professor of EMS Professions at Austin Community College. He attended the University of Texas at Austin for both his BS in Zoology (1985) and his PharmD (2005). After graduating from UT, for the second time, he completed a specialty pharmacy residency in internal medicine pharmacotherapy. Next, he joined the inaugural faculty of the Feik School of Pharmacy where he taught for three years. He returned to his alma mater where he taught a variety of topics, coordinated laboratory courses and provided clinical service in internal medicine. Nearly 10 years after leaving UIW-FSOP, he returned to take on the roles of Interprofessional Health Education Coordinator and Community Engagement Coordinator. Being trained in internal medicine, he has a wide variety of interests. He is still licensed as a paramedic.
